Privacy Policy
Last updated: 29 June 2026
This privacy policy explains how carDNA ("we", "us", "our") handles information when you use our website at cardna.co.uk. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.
Who we are
carDNA is a free UK vehicle information service operated as a sole trader business in the United Kingdom. For any privacy questions you can contact us at hello@cardna.co.uk.
Information we collect
carDNA is designed to be used without creating an account or providing personal information. When you use our vehicle check tool:
- Number plates you enter are sent to official DVLA and DVSA APIs to retrieve vehicle data. We do not store the number plates you search or build any history of your searches linked to you.
- Analytics data is collected via Google Analytics to help us understand how the site is used — such as pages visited, approximate location (country/city level), device type and browser. This data is aggregated and does not personally identify you.
- Advertising data may be collected by Google AdSense to serve relevant advertisements.
Cookies
carDNA uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) help us measure and improve site performance.
- Advertising cookies (Google AdSense) may be used to serve and personalise ads and measure their effectiveness.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings at any time. Disabling cookies will not affect your ability to use the core vehicle check tool.
Google AdSense & advertising
We use Google AdSense to display advertisements. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visit to our site and/or other sites on the internet.
You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. For more information about how Google uses data, visit Google's partner sites policy.
Google Analytics
We use Google Analytics to analyse the use of our website. Google Analytics gathers information about website use by means of cookies. The information gathered is used to create reports about the use of our website. You can find out more about Google's use of data at Google's privacy policy.
Data sources & accuracy
Vehicle data displayed by carDNA is sourced from official UK government APIs — the DVLA Vehicle Enquiry Service and the DVSA MOT History API. We do not control, modify or store this data. While we strive for accuracy, carDNA is provided for informational purposes only and we cannot guarantee the completeness or accuracy of third-party government data.
Third-party links
Our website may contain links to third-party websites, including affiliate partners offering full vehicle history reports. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of these external sites and encourage you to read their privacy policies.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, rectify or erase data we hold about you, and the right to object to or restrict certain processing. As we do not collect personally identifying information through normal use of our tool, these rights primarily apply to analytics and advertising data managed by Google. To exercise any rights or ask questions, contact us at hello@cardna.co.uk.
Changes to this policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
